Peter Paul Rubens was born on June 28, 1577 and died on May 30, 1640. Rubens was an extremely prolific seventeenth-century Flemish and European painter. A proponent of an exuberant Baroque style which emphasised movement, colour, and sensuality, Rubens is known for his Counter-Reformation, landscapes, altarpieces, portraits, , and history paintings of allegorical and mythological subjects.
Rubens ran a large studio in Antwerp that produced paintings popular with rich nobility and art collectors throughout Europe.
