The Birth of Venus

The Birth of Venus was painted bySandro Botticelli around 1483, probably for Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de' Medici's Villa di Castello. It is a depiction of the goddess Venus, having emerged from the sea as a full grown woman, arriving at the sea-shore (Venus Anadyomene motif). The painting is currently on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
